Food & Beverage
I created this business because I wanted to test myself. Cider is something that holds a place in my heart, so to transform it into a ‘cider farm’ of-sorts seemed like an amazing challenge.
Serious Cider is an alternative identity. The farm values authentic and ethical approaches to farming apples. Each piece of fruit is grown organically, avoiding pesticides and other harmful products.
They value ‘taking it easy’, which was a crucial part in the design process. Whilst creating the brands identity, I knew that it really had to paint its self in the colours of the brands values.
The process that I adopted was simple. I decided to start with the values. The keywords. Collecting them together, I was able to brainstorm their meanings, their synonyms and their own personal identities. Word-Mapping followed on, which eventually led me to the sketching process.
In the planning phase, this is the single most important part, and one that is greatly-overlooked. It helps build concepts, understand the brand and relate to the client.
business card design
Serious Cider was created to appeal to a younger audience. The identity hones in on the bubbly nature of the brand by implementing the uneven font choice. It is blocky, with rounded corners and un-measured imperfections with the design of the type. This was a purposeful decision, as it connotes a more fun, soft and energetic personality.
The colour scheme choice was used to communicate a typical apple colour, connoting the orchards where they were picked. It also communicates the exclusive style of the brand, making it appeal to a more upper-class audience with an open mind, sense of humour and bubbly personality.
The ‘o’ in Serious was intentionally designed to look like a perfect apple. This, again, communicates the key ingredient to the cider; apple.
